In June of 1896, Ford and a friend introduced the Quadricycle, his first experimental car with a 2-cylinder horizontal engine and no reverse gear. It reached a top speed of about 17 m.p.h. In 1903 the Ford Motor Company was organized. Busy workmen transformed a wagon shop on Mack Avenue into the Ford factory. Here men assembled engines, chassis, wheels, and other parts into finished cars.
