This listing is for one handmade recycled plastic bag coin purse from Gambia, Africa. The bags are made as part of an environmental and fair trade cooperative from Women’s Initiative The Gambia led by activist Isatou Ceesay. Size and Product Info Students love feeling the textures of these bags! The small size makes it a great item to pass around in the classroom when reading the book. Please note that the items are each one of a kind, and every color/pattern/size from one to the next are slightly different, so you will NOT get the exact one pictured! Most are blue and black, and some have stripes or other patterns in white, pink, yellow, green, or other shades – depending on the plastic bags that the women find. They are crocheted from strips of plastic yarn in Gambia, Africa and are not uniform in their look. Approximate size (varies slightly by each) = 4″ wide x 3.5″ height x 0.5 depth (coin purse – to fit credit cards and/or loose change). All come with a loop for hanging on a backpack or hook, a zipper close, and a hand-tied tag with more information about the Njau recycling group from Gambia, Africa, where the bags are made. Please note that the zippers are super-cute mini fashion zippers, so if you are passing them around the classroom, you may want to ask the students not to open and close them too much and wear them out. If you’re just using for personal items, the zipper will be fine, no worries. More about the women’s group is included below. About the Bags and the Artisans Each bag is made from approximately 4-10 upcycled plastic bags which once littered the roads of villages in the Gambia, Africa. The women generate much-needed income and gain confidence as this project and its offshoot projects now empower hundreds of women, girls, and men. Proceeds benefit the women of Njau. This listing is for one bag only (book not included). If you want more than one purse to the same address, choose the quantity desired. (If purchasing more than two purses, you may want to choose flat rate shipping and they will be combined in one package.
